News Brief

Dear Friend,

In celebration of National Community Policing Week, I would like to thank all of the law enforcement officers and community leaders who are choosing the path of peace and taking time to walk in each other’s shoes, build relationships, and work toward safer neighborhoods for everyone.

As Americans – as people – we all want safe neighborhoods, the fair and just rule of law, and peace. Maintaining these common goals in our cities is not always easy. It depends on mutual respect and joint partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. We are at a critical point in this country where we can either choose to sit back and watch police-community relationships continue to deteriorate, or we can focus on policing strategies that we know work.

One of the programs that we know works is Project Save Neighborhoods (PSN). During my time as Sheriff, I oversaw the implementation of this program in King County and saw the results that followed here at home and throughout the country. To read my OpEd explaining the benefits of PSN and why fully funding this program is essential to keeping our communities safe, click HERE.

Celebrating WA08’s Best

Congratulations to Kenroy Elementary School’s Veronique Paquette! Over her 29 years as an educator, she has won many awards. Most recently, she earned a nomination for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Keep up the good work – the students of East Wenatchee are very lucky to have you! Read the Wenatchee World article about Piquatte’s nomination, HERE.

We Must Not Reward Iran for Bad Behavior

Please take a moment to read the Wall Street Journal article on the letter several of my colleagues and I sent the Administration expressing our opposition to Iran’s potential World Trade Organization (WTO) membership. Iran remains the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism and continues to be a destabilizing force in the Middle East. It must be held accountable for its actions, and our ability to impose sanctions is vital to ensuring that happens.

Upcoming Service Academy Informational

Are you or someone you know interested in applying to one of our nation’s military academies? Each year I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of people to four of the five service academies. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. If you are interested in learning more, please visit my FAQ page or attend my upcoming informational session at Eastside Catholic School on October 13th. To view the flyer, click HERE.

As always, it is a pleasure to serve. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Dave
